Are Neck Adjustments Safe?
Neck pain and headaches are usually treated with cervical manipulation (Neck Adjustments). Cervical manipulation restores joint function within the neck. The restoration of joint function will improve range of motion, reduce muscle spasms and help reduce neck pain.
Chiropractic manipulation of the neck is a very safe procedure. There are some reports that have associated stroke with chiropractic manipulation of the neck. However, recent evedince suggest that patients are no more likely to suffer a stroke following a chiropractic neck adjustment than they are after visiting their medical doctor and concluded that VBA stroke is a rare event and this type of injury often takes place spontaneously or following ever day activities that require turning the head.
The best evidence indicates that artery injury associated with neck manipulation is extremely rare….about 1 case in 5,850,000. If you drive more than a mile to get to your chiropractic appointment you are at greater risk of serious injury than visiting your chiropractor.
